Delay in restarting my period

01 October 2004
I came off the combined pill mid-August. I still haven't have my period yet and last weekend, during sex the condom split so I got Levonelle the next morning. Will taking the latter mean that I won't get my period for longer - i'm worried, it's been 1.5months!

It is normal for there to be a delay in restarting your periods when you come off the pill. Most women re-establish heir cycle within 3 months but for some, it takes longer. If your period hasn't arrived after six months, then you should see your doctor. If you didn't come off the pill to start a family, don't forget to use another reliable form of contraception. You won't see your period if you are pregnant!

As for the levonelle, you should get a withdrawal bleed roughly 2 weeks after taking levonelle. If you don't see a bleed, you should consider that you could be pregnant and do a pregnancy test. A withdrawal bleed induced by levonelle will indicate that you aren't pregnant, but won't necessarily signal that your periods have re-started. However, I don't think that it would cause any further delay, so you shouldn't worry about the fact that you were sensible enough to have taken it.
