Can I lose weight from particular areas

01 January 2002
I'm trying to lose a bit of weight after christmas and have started going to the gym and eating sensibly. The only problem is I tend to put on weight around my waist and it's really hard to shift from this particular area. Have you got any ideas?

Response
It's a common problem that some people just can't lose weight from the areas they want to. Exercise aimed at the area will help to tone the muscles and this will help with the appearance. If you tend to carry fat around the waist but are otherwise a normal weight for your height, then you probably just need to accept that is your shape and try not to worry about it too much.
